²⁸ Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingship of Israel away from you today^(A) and has given it to your neighbor who is better than you.^(B)

¹⁴ but he did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.^(A)
