David Comes to the Camp.[a] 12 David was the son of an Ephrathite named Jesse from Bethlehem in Judah who had eight sons. In the days of Saul Jesse was old and well on in years.(A)

New International Version
10 Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy(A) the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.(B)” 11 On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.
12 Now David was the son of an Ephrathite(C) named Jesse,(D) who was from Bethlehem(E) in Judah. Jesse had eight(F) sons, and in Saul’s time he was very old.
