10 Goliath continued, “This day I dare the soldiers of Israel to send a man down to fight against me.” 11 Saul and the whole army of Israel heard what the Philistine said. They were terrified.
12 David was the son of an Ephrathite whose name was Jesse. Jesse was from Bethlehem in Judah and had eight sons. When Saul was king, Jesse was already very old.

New International Version
10 Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy(A) the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.(B)” 11 On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.
12 Now David was the son of an Ephrathite(C) named Jesse,(D) who was from Bethlehem(E) in Judah. Jesse had eight(F) sons, and in Saul’s time he was very old.
