10 The Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel today! Give me a man, that we may fight together!”
11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid. 12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons. The man was an elderly old man in the days of Saul.

10 Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy(A) the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.(B)” 11 On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.
12 Now David was the son of an Ephrathite(C) named Jesse,(D) who was from Bethlehem(E) in Judah. Jesse had eight(F) sons, and in Saul’s time he was very old.
