9 (A)Then an evil spirit from the Lord came upon Saul as he was sitting in his house with spear in hand while David was playing the harp nearby. 10 Saul tried to pin David to the wall with the spear, but David eluded Saul, and the spear struck only the wall, while David got away safely.
11 The same night, Saul sent messengers to David’s house to guard it, planning to kill him in the morning. David’s wife Michal informed him, “Unless you run for your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”[a]

New International Version
9 But an evil[a] spirit(A) from the Lord came on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand. While David was playing the lyre,(B) 10 Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear, but David eluded(C) him as Saul drove the spear into the wall. That night David made good his escape.
11 Saul sent men to David’s house to watch(D) it and to kill him in the morning.(E) But Michal, David’s wife, warned him, “If you don’t run for your life tonight, tomorrow you’ll be killed.”
