4 Then Jonathan said to David, “Whatever [a]you say, I will do for you.” 5 So David said to Jonathan, “Behold, tomorrow is (A)the new moon, and I am obligated (B)to sit down to eat with the king. But let me go (C)so that I may hide myself in the field until the third evening. 6 If your father misses me at all, then say, ‘David earnestly requested leave of me to run to (D)Bethlehem, his city, because it is (E)the yearly sacrifice there for the whole family.’

New International Version
4 Jonathan said to David, “Whatever you want me to do, I’ll do for you.”
5 So David said, “Look, tomorrow is the New Moon feast,(A) and I am supposed to dine with the king; but let me go and hide(B) in the field until the evening of the day after tomorrow. 6 If your father misses me at all, tell him, ‘David earnestly asked my permission(C) to hurry to Bethlehem,(D) his hometown, because an annual(E) sacrifice is being made there for his whole clan.’
