1 Samuel 20:7-9
Easy-to-Read Version
7 If your father says, ‘Fine,’ then I am safe. But if your father becomes angry, you will know that he wants to hurt me. 8 Jonathan, be kind to me. I am your servant. You have made an agreement with me before the Lord. If I am guilty, you may kill me yourself, but don’t take me to your father.”
9 Jonathan answered, “No, never! If I learn that my father plans to hurt you, I will warn you.”

1 Samuel 20:7-9
New International Version
7 If he says, ‘Very well,’ then your servant is safe. But if he loses his temper,(A) you can be sure that he is determined(B) to harm me. 8 As for you, show kindness to your servant, for you have brought him into a covenant(C) with you before the Lord. If I am guilty, then kill(D) me yourself! Why hand me over to your father?”
9 “Never!” Jonathan said. “If I had the least inkling that my father was determined to harm you, wouldn’t I tell you?”
