Every man in distress and every man who had a creditor and every embittered man gathered to him, and he became their commander.[a] Now there were about four hundred men with him. And David went up from there to Mizpah of Moab. He said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother stay[b] with you until I know what God will do for me.” So he brought them before the king of Moab,[c] and they stayed with him all the days David was in the stronghold.

All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered(A) around him, and he became their commander. About four hundred men were with him.

From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, “Would you let my father and mother come and stay with you until I learn what God will do for me?” So he left them with the king of Moab,(B) and they stayed with him as long as David was in the stronghold.
