⁶ Now it happened when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech ^(A)fled to David at Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.

⁹ But David knew that Saul was plotting evil against him; so he said to ^(A)Abiathar the priest, “^(B)Bring the ephod here.”

⁷ Then ^(A)David said to ^(B)Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring the ephod near to me.” So Abiathar brought the ephod near to David.

²⁶ Then to Abiathar the priest the king said, “^(A)Go to Anathoth to your own field, ^(B)for you ^[a]deserve to die; but I will not put you to death at this time, because ^(C)you carried the ark of Lord Yahweh before my father David, and because ^(D)you were afflicted in everything with which my father was afflicted.” ²⁷ So Solomon drove Abiathar away from being priest to Yahweh, in order to fulfill ^(E)the word of Yahweh, which He had spoken concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.
