⁸ It came about on the ^[a]next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. ⁹ They cut off his head and stripped off his weapons, and sent them ^[b]throughout the land of the Philistines, ^(A)to carry the good news ^(B)to the house of their idols and to the people. ¹⁰ They put his weapons in the ^[c]temple of ^(C)Ashtaroth, and ^(D)they fastened his body to the wall of ^(E)Beth-shan. ¹¹ Now when ^(F)the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard ^[d]what the Philistines had done to Saul, ^12 (G)all the valiant men rose and walked all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh and ^(H)burned them there. ¹³ They took their bones and ^(I)buried them under ^(J)the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and ^(K)fasted seven days.
