Then they said, “What is the trespass offering which we shall return to Him?”

They answered, (A)“Five golden tumors and five golden rats, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines. For the same plague was on all of [a]you and on your lords. Therefore you shall make images of your tumors and images of your rats that (B)ravage the land, and you shall (C)give glory to the God of Israel; perhaps He will (D)lighten[b] His hand from you, from (E)your gods, and from your land. Why then do you harden your hearts (F)as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When He did mighty things among them, (G)did they not let the people go, that they might depart?

The Philistines asked, “What guilt offering should we send to him?”

They replied, “Five gold tumors and five gold rats, according to the number(A) of the Philistine rulers, because the same plague(B) has struck both you and your rulers. Make models of the tumors(C) and of the rats that are destroying the country, and give glory(D) to Israel’s god. Perhaps he will lift his hand from you and your gods and your land. Why do you harden(E) your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh did? When Israel’s god dealt harshly with them,(F) did they(G) not send the Israelites out so they could go on their way?
