1 Samuel 7:2-4 Lexham English Bible (LEB)

From[a] the day the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, days multiplied and became twenty years[b] while all the house of Israel mourned after Yahweh. And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If with all your heart you are turning to Yahweh, remove the foreign gods and Ashtoreths[c] from your midst. Commit your hearts to Yahweh and serve him alone. Then he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” So the Israelites[d] removed the Baals[e] and the Ashtoreths, and they served Yahweh alone.

Samuel Subdues the Philistines at Mizpah

Then all the people of Israel turned back to the Lord. So Samuel said to all the Israelites, “If you are returning to the Lord with all your hearts, then rid yourselves of the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths and commit yourselves to the Lord and serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” So the Israelites put away their Baals and Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only.
