5 Then Samuel(A) said, “Assemble all Israel at Mizpah,(B) and I will intercede(C) with the Lord for you.” 6 When they had assembled at Mizpah,(D) they drew water and poured(E) it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed, “We have sinned against the Lord.” Now Samuel was serving as leader[a](F) of Israel at Mizpah.

2 People came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast number from beyond the Dead Sea and from Edom[a] has come to fight against you; they are already in Hazazon-tamar”(A) (that is, En-gedi). 3 Jehoshaphat was afraid, and he resolved(B) to seek the Lord. Then he proclaimed a fast(C) for all Judah, 4 who gathered to seek the Lord. They even came from all the cities of Judah to seek Him.

4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
