⁹ Samuel took ^(A)a suckling lamb and offered it for a whole burnt offering to the Lord; and Samuel cried to the Lord for Israel and ^(B)the Lord answered him. ¹⁰ Now Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, and the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But ^(C)the Lord thundered with a great ^[a]thunder on that day against the Philistines and ^(D)confused them, so that they were ^[b]routed before Israel.

¹⁶ Therefore, ^(A)confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be ^(B)healed. ^(C)The effective ^[a]prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. ¹⁷ Elijah was ^(D)a man with a nature like ours, and ^(E)he prayed ^[b]earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for ^(F)three years and six months. ¹⁸ Then he ^(G)prayed again, and ^(H)the ^[c]sky ^[d]poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

¹⁹ My brethren, ^(I)if any among you strays from ^(J)the truth and one turns him back, ²⁰ let him know that ^[e]he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will ^(K)save his soul from death and will ^(L)cover a multitude of sins.
