1 Samuel 8:7-9
Easy-to-Read Version
7 The Lord told Samuel, “Do what the people tell you. They have not rejected you. They have rejected me. They don’t want me to be their king. 8 They are doing the same thing they have always done. I took them out of Egypt, but they left me and served other gods. They are doing the same to you. 9 So listen to the people and do what they say. But give them a warning. Tell the people what a king will do to them. Tell them how a king rules people.”

New International Version
7 And the Lord told him: “Listen(A) to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected,(B) but they have rejected me as their king.(C) 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking(D) me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know(E) what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”
