1 Samuel 8:7-9
Good News Translation
7 and the Lord said, “Listen to everything the people say to you. You are not the one they have rejected; I am the one they have rejected as their king. 8 Ever since I brought them out of Egypt, they have turned away from me and worshiped other gods; and now they are doing to you what they have always done to me. 9 So then, listen to them, but give them strict warnings and explain how their kings will treat them.”

New International Version
7 And the Lord told him: “Listen(A) to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected,(B) but they have rejected me as their king.(C) 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking(D) me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know(E) what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”
