5 When we told you the good news, it was with the power and assurance that come from the Holy Spirit, and not simply with words. You knew what kind of people we were and how we helped you. 6 (A) So, when you accepted the message, you followed our example and the example of the Lord. You suffered, but the Holy Spirit made you glad.
7 You became an example for all the Lord's followers in Macedonia and Achaia.

5 because our gospel(A) came to you not simply with words but also with power,(B) with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know(C) how we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us(D) and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering(E) with the joy(F) given by the Holy Spirit.(G) 7 And so you became a model(H) to all the believers in Macedonia(I) and Achaia.(J)
