4 (A)but just as we have been approved by God to be (B)entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, (C)not as pleasing men, but God who [a](D)examines our hearts. 5 For we never came with a flattering word, as you know, nor with (E)a pretext for greed—(F)God is witness— 6 nor (G)seeking glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as (H)apostles of Christ we [b]could have been a burden to you.

4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.(A) We are not trying to please people(B) but God, who tests our hearts.(C) 5 You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed(D)—God is our witness.(E) 6 We were not looking for praise from people,(F) not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles(G) of Christ we could have asserted our authority.(H)
