3 We didn't want any of you to be discouraged by all these troubles. You knew we would have to suffer, 4 because when we were with you, we told you this would happen. And we did suffer, as you well know. 5 At last, when I could not wait any longer, I sent Timothy to find out about your faith. I hoped Satan had not tempted you and made all our work useless.

3 so that no one would be unsettled by these trials.(A) For you know quite well that we are destined for them.(B) 4 In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know.(C) 5 For this reason, when I could stand it no longer,(D) I sent to find out about your faith.(E) I was afraid that in some way the tempter(F) had tempted you and that our labors might have been in vain.(G)
