4 For while we were still with you, we told you ahead of time that we were going to be persecuted; and as you well know, that is exactly what happened. 5 That is why I had to send Timothy. I could not bear it any longer, so I sent him to find out about your faith. Surely it could not be that the Devil had tempted you and all our work had been for nothing!
6 (A)Now Timothy has come back, and he has brought us the welcome news about your faith and love. He has told us that you always think well of us and that you want to see us just as much as we want to see you.

4 In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know.(A) 5 For this reason, when I could stand it no longer,(B) I sent to find out about your faith.(C) I was afraid that in some way the tempter(D) had tempted you and that our labors might have been in vain.(E)

6 But Timothy(F) has just now come to us from you(G) and has brought good news about your faith and love.(H) He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you.(I)
