5 Now (A)the purpose of the commandment is love (B)from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from [a]sincere faith, 6 from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to (C)idle talk, 7 desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.

5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart(A) and a good conscience(B) and a sincere faith.(C) 6 Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. 7 They want to be teachers(D) of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.(E)

6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
