GOD’S WORD Translation
4 The children or grandchildren of a widow must first learn to respect their own family by repaying their parents. This is pleasing in God’s sight.
5 A widow who has no family has placed her confidence in God by praying and asking for his help night and day. 6 But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead although she is still alive.

New International Version
4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents,(A) for this is pleasing to God.(B) 5 The widow who is really in need(C) and left all alone puts her hope in God(D) and continues night and day to pray(E) and to ask God for help. 6 But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives.(F)
