7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable idol of Moab, on the mountain which is [a]east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the detestable idol of the sons of Ammon.8 Thus also he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.
4 He built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, “In Jerusalem I will put My name.”5 For he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.6 He made his son pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and used divination, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord provoking Him to anger.7 Then he set the carved image of Asherah that he had made, in the house of which the Lord said to David and to his son Solomon, “In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever.
9 “Shall I not punish [a]these people,” declares the Lord, “And on a nation such as this Shall I not avenge Myself?
10 “Go up through her vine rows and destroy, But do not execute a complete destruction; Strip away her branches, For they are not the Lord’s. 11 “For the house of Israel and the house of Judah Have dealt very treacherously with Me,” declares the Lord.
“Cut down her trees And cast up a siege against Jerusalem. This is the city to be punished, In whose midst there is only oppression. 7 “As a well [a]keeps its waters fresh, So she [b]keeps fresh her wickedness. Violence and destruction are heard in her; Sickness and wounds are ever before Me.
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.
