16 When Judas and the people heard these reports, they convened a great assembly to determine what they should do for their beleaguered kindred who were under attack by their enemies.

17 Judas said to his brother Simon, “Choose as many troops as you need and go forth to rescue your kindred in Galilee, while my brother Jonathan and I will go to Gilead.”

18 He left the remainder of his forces under the command of Joseph, son of Zechariah, and Azariah, a leader of the people, to defend Judea.
