¹⁸ He left the remainder of his forces under the command of Joseph, son of Zechariah, and Azariah, a leader of the people, to defend Judea. ¹⁹ “Take charge of these people,” he commanded them, “but do not engage the Gentiles in battle until we come back.” ²⁰ Simon was allotted three thousand men for the march on Galilee, while eight thousand men were assigned to Judas for the march on Gilead.
