²⁴ Then Saul said to Samuel, “^(A)I have sinned, for ^(B)I have violated the ^[a]command of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and listened to their voice.

³⁰ Then Saul said, “I have sinned; ^(A)but please honor me now before the elders of my people and before all Israel, and go back with me, ^(B)so that I may worship the Lord your God.”

¹⁰ Now ^(A)David’s heart ^[a]troubled him after he had counted the people. So David said to the Lord, “^(B)I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, Lord, please ^[b]overlook the guilt of Your servant, for ^(C)I have acted very foolishly.”

¹³ But the tax collector, ^(A)standing some distance away, ^(B)was even unwilling to raise his eyes toward heaven, but ^(C)was beating his chest, saying, ‘God, be ^[a]merciful to me, the sinner!’
