³⁸ Jonathan’s Forces Save Demetrius. When King Demetrius saw that the country was at peace under his rule and that there was no opposition to him, he dismissed his forces, sending all of them to their own homes except for the foreign troops that he had recruited from the islands of the nations. As a result, all the soldiers who had served under his predecessors hated him.
