Then (A)worthless rogues gathered to him, and strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was (B)young and inexperienced and could not withstand them. And now you think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord, which is in the hand of the sons of David; and you are a great multitude, and with you are the gold calves which Jeroboam (C)made for you as gods. (D)Have you not cast out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made for yourselves priests, like the peoples of other lands, (E)so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of (F)things that are not gods?

Some worthless scoundrels(A) gathered around him and opposed Rehoboam son of Solomon when he was young and indecisive(B) and not strong enough to resist them.

“And now you plan to resist the kingdom of the Lord, which is in the hands of David’s descendants.(C) You are indeed a vast army and have with you(D) the golden calves(E) that Jeroboam made to be your gods. But didn’t you drive out the priests(F) of the Lord,(G) the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make priests of your own as the peoples of other lands do?
