Enemies Destroy Themselves

²⁰ They rose early in the morning and went out to the wilderness of Tekoa; and when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, ^(A)put your trust in the Lord your God and you will be established. Put your trust in His prophets and succeed.”

⁴ which I commanded your forefathers in the ^(A)day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the ^(B)iron furnace, saying, ‘^(C)Listen to My voice, and ^[a]do according to all which I command you; so you shall be ^(D)My people, and I will be your God,’

⁸ Yet they ^(A)did not obey or incline their ear, but walked, each one, in the stubbornness of his evil heart; therefore I brought on them all the ^(B)words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.’”

¹³ Now therefore ^(A)amend your ways and your deeds and obey the voice of the Lord your God; and the Lord will ^[a]change His mind about the misfortune which He has pronounced against you.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, may my ^(A)advice be pleasing to you: ^[a](B)break away now from your sins by doing righteousness and from your iniquities by ^(C)showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a ^(D)prolonging of your prosperity.’

²⁹ And Paul said, “^[a]I would wish to God, that whether ^[b]in a short or long time, not only you, but also all who hear me this day, might become such as I am, except for these ^(A)chains.”
