17 All the people went to the house of Baal and tore it down. They broke in pieces his altars and the objects made to look like him. And they killed Mattan the religious leader of Baal in front of the altars. 18 Then Jehoiada put the duties of the Lord’s house under the care of the religious leaders and the Levites. David had chosen them to take care of the Lord’s house. They were to give the burnt gifts of the Lord, as it is written in the Law of Moses. It was to be done with joy and singing, as David had told them. 19 And Jehoiada put the gate-keepers in their places of the Lord’s house. This was so no one would go in who was in any way unclean.

17 All the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed the altars and idols and killed(A) Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars.

18 Then Jehoiada placed the oversight of the temple of the Lord in the hands of the Levitical priests,(B) to whom David had made assignments in the temple,(C) to present the burnt offerings of the Lord as written in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and singing, as David had ordered. 19 He also stationed gatekeepers(D) at the gates of the Lord’s temple so that no one who was in any way unclean might enter.
