He did what was right in the Lord’s sight but not wholeheartedly.(A)

As soon as the kingdom was firmly in his grasp,[a] he executed his servants who had murdered his father the king. However, he did not put their children to death, because—as it is written in the Law, in the book of Moses,(B) where the Lord commanded—“Fathers must not die because of children, and children must not die because of fathers, but each one will die for his own sin.”(C)

Yet he did not put their children to death, but acted in accordance with what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses,(B) where the Lord commanded: “Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor children be put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.”[a](C)
