2 Chronicles 25:2-4

²He did what the Lord approved,^[a] but not with wholehearted devotion.^[b]

³When he had secured control of the kingdom,^[c] he executed the servants who had assassinated his father the king. ⁴However, he did not execute their sons. He obeyed the Lord’s commandment as recorded in the law scroll of Moses,^[d] “Fathers must not be executed for what their sons do,^[e] and sons must not be executed for what their fathers do.^[f] A man must be executed only for his own sin.”^[g]

New International Version

²He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not wholeheartedly.^(A) ³After the kingdom was firmly in his control, he executed the officials who had murdered his father the king. ⁴Yet he did not put their children to death, but acted in accordance with what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses,^(B) where the Lord commanded: “Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor children be put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.”^[a]^(C)
