2 Chronicles 29:8-10
New Century Version
8 So the Lord became very angry with the people of Judah and Jerusalem, and he punished them. Other people are frightened and shocked by what he did to them. So they insult the people of Judah. You know these things are true. 9 That is why our ancestors were killed in battle and our sons, daughters, and wives were taken captive. 10 Now I, Hezekiah, have decided to make an agreement with the Lord, the God of Israel, so he will not be angry with us anymore.

8 Therefore, the anger of the Lord has fallen on Judah and Jerusalem; he has made them an object of dread and horror(A) and scorn,(B) as you can see with your own eyes. 9 This is why our fathers have fallen by the sword and why our sons and daughters and our wives are in captivity.(C) 10 Now I intend to make a covenant(D) with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that his fierce anger(E) will turn away from us.
