Manasseh’s father, Hezekiah, had torn down the places where false gods were worshiped. But Manasseh rebuilt them. Manasseh also built altars for the Baal gods and made Asherah idols. He bowed down to the stars and worshiped them. The Lord had said about the Temple, “I will be worshiped in Jerusalem forever.” But Manasseh built altars for false gods in the Temple of the Lord. He built altars to worship the stars in the two courtyards of the Temple of the Lord.

He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had demolished; he also erected altars to the Baals and made Asherah poles.(A) He bowed down(B) to all the starry hosts and worshiped them. He built altars in the temple of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, “My Name(C) will remain in Jerusalem forever.” In both courts of the temple of the Lord,(D) he built altars to all the starry hosts.
