19 When the king heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.(A) 20 Then he commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah, Shaphan the court secretary, and the king’s servant Asaiah, 21 “Go. Ask Yahweh for me and for those remaining in Israel and Judah, concerning the words of the book that was found. For great is the Lord’s wrath that is poured out on us(B) because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord in order to do everything written in this book.”

19 When the king heard the words of the Law,(A) he tore(B) his robes. 20 He gave these orders to Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan(C), Abdon son of Micah,[a] Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king’s attendant: 21 “Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the remnant in Israel and Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the Lord’s anger that is poured out(D) on us because those who have gone before us have not kept the word of the Lord; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written in this book.”
