The Fall of Jerusalem^(A)(B)

¹⁵ The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers^(C) again and again,^(D) because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place.

¹³ While you were doing all these things, declares the Lord, I spoke^(A) to you again and again,^(B) but you did not listen;^(C) I called^(D) you, but you did not answer.^(E)

²⁵ From the time your ancestors left Egypt until now, day after day, again and again^(A) I sent you my servants^(B) the prophets.^(C)

³ For twenty-three years—from the thirteenth year of Josiah^(A) son of Amon king of Judah until this very day—the word of the Lord has come to me and I have spoken to you again and again,^(B) but you have not listened.^(C)

⁵ and if you do not listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I have sent to you again and again (though you have not listened^(A)),

³³ They turned their backs^(A) to me and not their faces; though I taught^(B) them again and again, they would not listen or respond to discipline.^(C)

¹⁴ ‘Jehonadab son of Rekab ordered his descendants not to drink wine and this command has been kept. To this day they do not drink wine, because they obey their forefather’s command.^(A) But I have spoken to you again and again,^(B) yet you have not obeyed^(C) me. ¹⁵ Again and again I sent all my servants the prophets^(D) to you. They said, “Each of you must turn^(E) from your wicked ways and reform^(F) your actions; do not follow other gods^(G) to serve them. Then you will live in the land^(H) I have given to you and your ancestors.” But you have not paid attention or listened^(I) to me.

⁴ Again and again^(A) I sent my servants the prophets,^(B) who said, ‘Do not do this detestable^(C) thing that I hate!’
