6 But the children of those that did slay him, he [a]slew not, according unto that which is written in the book of the Law of Moses, wherein the Lord commanded, saying, (A)The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children put to death for the fathers: but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
7 He slew also of [b]Edom in the valley of salt, ten thousand, and took [c]the city of Sela by war, and called the name thereof Joktheel unto this day.
8 ¶ Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu king of Israel, saying, Come, [d]let us see one another in the face.

New International Version
6 Yet he did not put the children of the assassins to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book of the Law(A) of Moses where the Lord commanded: “Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.”[a](B)
7 He was the one who defeated ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt(C) and captured Sela(D) in battle, calling it Joktheel, the name it has to this day.
8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, with the challenge: “Come, let us face each other in battle.”
