7 (A)He struck down ten thousand Edomites in (B)the Valley of Salt and took (C)Sela by storm, and called it (D)Joktheel, which is its name to this day.
8 (E)Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash[a] the son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, (F)let us look one another in the face.” 9 And Jehoash king of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah, (G)“A thistle on Lebanon sent to a cedar on Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son for a wife,’ and a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle.

New International Version
7 He was the one who defeated ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt(A) and captured Sela(B) in battle, calling it Joktheel, the name it has to this day.
8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, with the challenge: “Come, let us face each other in battle.”
9 But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah: “A thistle(C) in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon, ‘Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.
