²²Who is it you have ridiculed and blasphemed?^(A)
    Against whom have you raised your voice
and lifted your eyes in pride?
    Against the Holy One^(B) of Israel!
²³By your messengers
    you have ridiculed the Lord.

    “With my many chariots^(D)
I have ascended the heights of the mountains,
    the utmost heights of Lebanon.
I have cut down^(E) its tallest cedars,
    the choicest of its junipers.
I have reached its remotest parts,
    the finest of its forests.

¹⁵Now do not let Hezekiah deceive^(A) you and mislead you like this. Do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver^(B) his people from my hand or the hand of my predecessors.^(C) How much less will your god deliver you from my hand!”

¹⁶Sennacherib’s officers spoke further against the Lord God and against his servant Hezekiah. ¹⁷The king also wrote letters^(D) ridiculing^(E) the Lord, the God of Israel, and saying this against him: “Just as the gods^(F) of the peoples of the other lands did not rescue their people from my hand, so the god of Hezekiah will not rescue his people from my hand.”
