14 The next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by Uriah. 15 In the letter David wrote, “Put Uriah on the front lines where the fighting is worst. Then leave him there alone. Let him be killed in battle.”

16 Joab watched the city and saw where its strongest defenders were. He put Uriah there.

14 In the morning David wrote a letter(A) to Joab and sent it with Uriah. 15 In it he wrote, “Put Uriah out in front where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down(B) and die.(C)

16 So while Joab had the city under siege, he put Uriah at a place where he knew the strongest defenders were.
