³¹ The king stood up, tore^(A) his clothes and lay down on the ground; and all his attendants stood by with their clothes torn.

³¹ Then David said to Joab and all the people with him, “Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth^(A) and walk in mourning^(B) in front of Abner.” King David himself walked behind the bier.

⁶ Then Joshua tore his clothes^(A) and fell facedown^(B) to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there till evening.^(C) The elders of Israel^(D) did the same, and sprinkled dust^(E) on their heads.
