22 So David said to Ittai, “Come along then.”[a] So Ittai the Gittite went along,[b] accompanied by all his men and all the dependents[c] who were with him.

23 All the land was weeping loudly[d] as all these people were leaving.[e] As the king was crossing over the Kidron Valley, all the people were leaving[f] on the road that leads to the desert. 24 Zadok and all the Levites who were with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. When they positioned the ark of God, Abiathar offered sacrifices until all the people had finished leaving[g] the city.

22 David said to Ittai, “Go ahead, march on.” So Ittai the Gittite marched on with all his men and the families that were with him.

23 The whole countryside wept aloud(A) as all the people passed by. The king also crossed the Kidron Valley,(B) and all the people moved on toward the wilderness.

24 Zadok(C) was there, too, and all the Levites who were with him were carrying the ark(D) of the covenant of God. They set down the ark of God, and Abiathar(E) offered sacrifices until all the people had finished leaving the city.
