6 So in this way Absalom stole the hearts of all the people of Israel.
7-8 After four years, Absalom said to the king, “Let me go to Hebron to sacrifice to the Lord in fulfillment of a vow I made to him while I was at Geshur—that if he would bring me back to Jerusalem, I would sacrifice to him.”

New International Version
6 Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and so he stole the hearts(A) of the people of Israel.
7 At the end of four[a] years, Absalom said to the king, “Let me go to Hebron and fulfill a vow I made to the Lord. 8 While your servant was living at Geshur(B) in Aram, I made this vow:(C) ‘If the Lord takes me back to Jerusalem, I will worship the Lord in Hebron.[b]’”
