15 And they came and besieged him in (A)Abel Beth-maacah, and (B)they [a]built up an assault ramp against the city, and it stood against the outer rampart; and all the people who were with Joab were wreaking destruction in order to topple the wall. 16 Then (C)a wise woman called out from the city, “Listen, listen! Please tell Joab, ‘Come here that I may speak with you.’” 17 So he approached her, and the woman said, “Are you Joab?” And he answered, “I am.” Then she said to him, “Listen to the words of your slave.” And he said, “I am listening.”

15 All the troops with Joab came and besieged Sheba in Abel Beth Maakah.(A) They built a siege ramp(B) up to the city, and it stood against the outer fortifications. While they were battering the wall to bring it down, 16 a wise woman(C) called from the city, “Listen! Listen! Tell Joab to come here so I can speak to him.” 17 He went toward her, and she asked, “Are you Joab?”

“I am,” he answered.

She said, “Listen to what your servant has to say.”

“I’m listening,” he said.
