7 And came to the fortress of [a]Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites, and went toward the South of Judah, even to Beersheba.
8 ¶ So when they had gone about all the land, they returned to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9 ¶ And Joab delivered the number and sum of the people unto the King: and there were in Israel [b]eight hundred thousand strong men that drew swords, and the men of Judah were [c]five hundred thousand men.

New International Version
7 Then they went toward the fortress of Tyre(A) and all the towns of the Hivites(B) and Canaanites. Finally, they went on to Beersheba(C) in the Negev(D) of Judah.
8 After they had gone through the entire land, they came back to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9 Joab reported the number of the fighting men to the king: In Israel there were eight hundred thousand able-bodied men who could handle a sword, and in Judah five hundred thousand.(E)
