2 Samuel 3:37-39

37 Now the people of Judah and Israel were certain that David had nothing to do with killing Abner.
38 David said to his officials, “Don't you realize that today one of Israel's great leaders has died? 39 I am the chosen king, but Joab and Abishai have more power than I do. So God will have to pay them back[a] for the evil thing they did.”

New International Version
37 So on that day all the people there and all Israel knew that the king had no part(A) in the murder of Abner son of Ner.
38 Then the king said to his men, “Do you not realize that a commander and a great man has fallen(B) in Israel this day? 39 And today, though I am the anointed king, I am weak, and these sons of Zeruiah(C) are too strong(D) for me.(E) May the Lord repay(F) the evildoer according to his evil deeds!”
