2 For some time, while Saul was king over us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The Lord said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel.’ 3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. 4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for forty years.

2 In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns.(A) And the Lord said(B) to you, ‘You will shepherd(C) my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.(D)’”
3 When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant(E) with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed(F) David king over Israel.
4 David was thirty years old(G) when he became king, and he reigned(H) forty(I) years.
