3 David smote also Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his dominion at [a]the River. 4 And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots. 5 And when [b]the Syrians of Damascus came to succor Hadadezer king of Zobah, David smote of [c]the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

New International Version
3 Moreover, David defeated Hadadezer(A) son of Rehob, king of Zobah,(B) when he went to restore his monument at[a] the Euphrates(C) River. 4 David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand charioteers[b] and twenty thousand foot soldiers. He hamstrung(D) all but a hundred of the chariot horses.
5 When the Arameans of Damascus(E) came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them.
