⁶ However, he did not put the children of the murderers to death, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses where the Lord commanded, “Fathers must not be put to death because of children, and children must not be put to death because of fathers; instead, each one will be put to death for his own sin.”^(A)

⁹ They taught throughout Judah, having the book of the Lord’s instruction with them.^(A) They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.

⁶ —came up from Babylon. He was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses,^(A) which Yahweh, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he requested^(B) because the hand of Yahweh his God was on him.^(C)

8 ¹ all the people gathered together^(A) at the square in front of the Water Gate.^(B) They asked Ezra the scribe^(C) to bring the book of the law of Moses^(D) that the Lord had given Israel.
