^4 (A)Then the city was broken into, and all the men of war fled by night by way of the gate between the two walls that were beside ^(B)the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans were all around the city. And ^[a]they went by way of the Arabah. ⁵ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook him in the plains of Jericho, and all his army was scattered from him.

² A third you shall burn in the fire at the center of the city, when the ^(A)days of the siege are completed. Then you shall take a third and strike it with the sword all around ^[a]the city, and a third you shall scatter to the wind; for I will ^(B)unsheathe a sword behind them.

²¹ All the ^[a](A)choice men in all his troops will fall by the sword, and the survivors will be scattered to every wind; and you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken.”
